About
Huntington Lodge & Cottage began as an accommodation business in 2016, with just the Cottage. The idea came after we had a very dear couple stay in the Cottage several times for respite, as the husband was dying of cancer. They would have such wonderful stays and they both slept so well while they were on the property, and the husband’s appetite would return, which was a great health benefit for him. Consequently, they encouraged us to think about sharing it as a holiday rental on a popular accommodation website so others could enjoy its beauty and serenity.
This began a slow but steady beginning to what has today become an extremely popular holiday choice. In 2018, we opened the Lodge for rental as well. We are the only short-term holiday rental at Mount Tomah that can accommodate up to 15 people, making it a popular choice for wedding groups.
In 2002, we discovered the property and immediately fell in love with its beauty and tranquillity. At the time, the grounds were mostly bushland with some garden areas around the dwellings. We began to tidy it up and work on the grounds just about every weekend. The original street frontage was a chicken wire fence line with a few camelia and azalea trees behind on the lawn. The driveway was just a dirt track with some random patches of concrete. We planted the whole fence line with Leyton Green saplings and lined the driveway with dozens of blue agapanthas that were growing randomly all over the property. Later we completed the concrete section of the driveway and laid tons of golden pebbles over the remainder. We installed electric gates for added security.
In 2010, we weren’t able to use the property very much due to changing commitments, so we leased it to a permanent tenant for 5 years through a local real estate agent. Unfortunately, the tenants did not take care of the grounds or the dwellings, particularly the Lodge, and when they vacated in 2015, we were heartbroken to see how neglected it was. The Lodge had to be internally gutted and completely renovated, so we took the opportunity to completely rewire the electricals and replace all the doors, windows, walls, flooring, kitchen and bathroom to Hamptons style. Today, the Lodge is unrecognisable from what it once was! We also set about lovingly restoring the grounds, gardens and lawns which had turned to mud.
We love the property and seeing how it transforms its beauty with every season. Sometimes in winter it snows, which is absolutely magical! As soon as we drive through the front gates we feel ourselves relax and decompress in what feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We believe such beauty is too good not to share with others who may need an escape, and it gives us great pleasure to prepare both the Lodge and Cottage with thoughtful extras so each guest can simply relax and unwind as soon as they arrive. We strive to exceed the expectations of every guest and provide a truly unique and memorable experience.
